The Runner - One warrior's passion for running.

I Run.

I run for many reasons. Mostly to stay healthy and challenge myself by pushing my body past most peoples limits.

I run because I have to. The Army requires that I stay physically fit in order to advance in my career and running helps me maintain those standards. I also take pride in beating a lot of the younger soldiers and being able to push them to better themselves.

I run to see things. Running allows you to get out and see things you might miss driving by in a car. It's also a great way to people watch, one of my favorite past times.

I run to clear my mind. I don't often run with headphones on and this allows me to ponder my thoughts, dream dreams, and sort things out in my head.

Please, feel free to 'run' through these pages and see where I've been, where I'm going, and what I thought of it!

My First Marathon.

My first marathon was the 2006 Seattle Marathon. I became involved in it through the foundation that I was volunteering with. They were the beneficiary that year and I thought it would be a great idea to raise money by having people 'sponsor' me for the marathon. Together we raised over $3200! Needless to say, that was the easy part.

The weather was not very cooperative that year for the marathon. It was drizzling from the start and down right rained as we ran through the streets of Seattle. My feet were soaked within the first mile! The weather did clear up for the second half of the race, but unfortunataly that's where I hit my wall! Miles 14-17 were shear agony. If I hadn't truly believed in "finish, or die trying!" I would have quit. I hobbled, walked, ran, and even skipped a bit from mile 18 on.

I was so physically spent when I crossed the finishline that I didn't even see where to get my medal, and at that time I really didn't care either. I was proud of the fact that I did finish, but knew that I would never run another marathon again in my life. I would not run again until January 1st of the next year.

It wasn't until April of 2007 that I actually considered repeating the fundraising event and marathon. I wasn't able to train as much as last year, but a different approach made the 2007 Seattle Marathon far more enjoyable. I can now honestly say that I have caught marathon fever and have decided on a new challenge!

FIFTY MARATHONS IN FIFTY YEARS!

To be more specific, my goal is to run my fiftieth marathon at the age of fifty. So... currently I have seven under my belt and I'm 42. What that equates to is completing another 43 marathons in the next 8 years! Or about 6 a year, and it will all be documented here.
